Under the “External Search" tab of the Profile are two options: External Search and Custom Search.

The External Search function is described here. External Searches are executed and results are displayed within the desLibris Advanced Search search interface. When individual titles are selected, the external source opens in a new browser tab.
Custom Search allows for a library administrator to set up any link for integration with desLibris.
Sources 1 and 2 are pre-configured (“built in”) to desLibris; additional sources will be added in future. These will include libraries which publish their catalogues in OPDS form.
Source 3 is an example of a “Custom Search” which may be configured by a Library Administrator on the ”External Sources” tab of the Administration panel.
An example using Google is provided as a guide. Custom searches may be configured in both English and French where the database offers the choice. The function could be applied to any external database where the search can be preconfigured. Examples being other commercial databases, library catalogues or respository sites.
Users may access Custom search in two ways: in the Advanced Search window or within the reader.
In Advanced Search, use the dropdown...
To use Custom Search within the reader:
When a word or phrase is selected, a right click presents the custom searches which have been preconfigured.
Selection of any search opens a new window and executes the search within the new database. This function is useful when specific references are found in books which need further research in the Custom Source .
How to set up Custom Search
The process is simple. Open the External Search tab, go to My Custom Searches and click the + button to create a new search. Before proceeding further, go to the search page of the source you wish to set up, create and execute a search. In the example below, the UOttawa Research database has been chosen, the url for the basic search page of which is https://ruor.uottawa.ca/.
To create the url to use in the "Search URL" window, perform a two-word search in the target and note the url. For example, a search for "indigenous rights" on the UOttawa Research site produces this url:
Copy this URL and paste it into the text box, replacing the text after the prefix with the string [[textandkey]].
The use of two words in the test search produces the text separator, which in this case is the + sign.

When the entry is finished, click Save.
This will display the new search in the table and allow you to test. When a word or phrase is entered in the "Try it" box (2), the "Enter" key will open a new window and execute the search. If the function performs correctly, check "Enable" (1) and the Custom Search will be in place.
