Referring URL

Referring URL

Overview

Referring URL Authentication may be used to set up an authenticated link to desLibris from a secure and/or password-protected web page. We use a standard HTTP Referrer command to check the URL of the page that contained the link.

If that link is registered with desLibris, the user will be granted access.

Once logged into desLibris navigate to your Profile > IP and Remote Access > Referring URL

IMPORTANT NOTE

As of July 1st, 2018 only the https protocol will be supported. Please use only HTTPS.

As of July 1st, 2018 desLibris will enforce the host name WWW.

This means that the only valid URL is https://www.deslibris.ca/referring

  1. In the Referring URL box, type in the web address of the page that your patrons will be coming from (the "Entrance page".) For example: http://mylib.com/landing.html.
  2. Save

There are, however, limitations to this approach. There are times where the referring URL is not passed, due to privacy or design of the web page. Known examples of this include:

  1. Some firewall software including Norton Personal Firewall will interfere.
  2. Scripts that use HTTP redirect
  3. Links that use JavaScript to open a new window
  4.
If you are unable to successfully set up referring URL authentication, please contact Technical Support.
