Custom Searches

desLibris provides a portal to “External Searches,” which may include public databases like Internet Archive and Open Library as well as subject databases which may be of use to specialized audiences.

This facility is "off" by default; it may be turned "on" by Library Administrators in the "External Search" tab of the Profile.

1. Basic sources like Internet Archive and Open Library may be enabled here. See more here.
2. "Custom Search" allows library administrators to set up other specialized reference sources. Google is given as an example only.

3. In "My custom searches" several examples are given.

How does it work?

When External Search is activated, a right click on any word or phrase in the online reader will display a list of external search options.

Clicking on one will open a new window with the selected text used as the search string in the chosen source.

This function is useful for cross-referencing in more in-depth sources like Case law sources.
